Laura Cheatham, 38, and Daryl J. Head, 38, were arrested Tuesday and charged separately with eight counts of child endangerment and kidnapping.
Children ranging in ages 6-12 were allegedly tortured kept in homemade boxes with no access to water, bathrooms or windows. Officers say the home reeked of urine.
"I've seen some pretty nasty things, but nothing this deplorable," the sheriff added.
The 4 children were adopted, 3 girls and 1 boy.
Daryl J. Head, left, and Laura Cheatham were charged after children were found in what the sheriff described as "deplorable" conditions in their home.
Laura Cheatham, 38 and her estranged husband "Not Pictured" adopted these children together. No word from the Husband as of yet.
Police responded early Tuesday after somebody called Missouri's Child Abuse Hotline to report the abuse of the children in the Farmington home, Fox 2 reported.
